As anyone that watches my activity on fanfiction.net, or even just here on the blog has probably guessed. I've been struggling with a really massive case of writers block. The small stack of projects I have waiting for me to complete only seems to grow larger, as I jot down random ideas for stories and so forth, but found my mind going completely blank once I sit down to turn those ideas into an actual story.
Anyway, I really need to force myself to sit down in a chair and start writing again... except every time I try my mind leaps to something else and I'm left banging my head against the keyboard in frustration. I'm like those dogs in Up!
Yeah... Except in my case, it's not 'Squirrel!' that sets me off...
Here's a short list of instant distraction words/subjects that make up the bricks in my wall of writer's block.
Ukraine...
Star Wars: The Force Awakens...
Rogue One...
Demographics...
Peter Zeihan...
Police Shooting...
Hmm, there are probably more, but you get the idea. Now... just have to figure out how to get away from them all.
Maybe shutting down my internet connection would work.

Still Alive
Sorry for the lack of updates the last few months. I've been busy...
I actually had to rebuild my desktop computer. The only thing original in it at this point is the hard drive.
In other news...
Disney announced the first of the spin-off films for STAR WARS. Rogue One, which means that we got a Rogue Squadron movie! Hurray!
No word on what the film will be about besides the title and one actress will be in a 'Starring Role'.

Still Working...
Well, this is basically just a quick update to let you all know I'm not dead or anything. I'm still looking for beta reader, if any of you are up to it... But right now I'm focused on finishing the process of getting a couple books from the Kindle release over to smashwords.
This has basically required that I due a lot of formating to get the document ready for the meatgrinder at smashwords. I'm almost done with the first of these books (I'm going to look through the formatting guide again to make sure I didn't forget something), then I'll start releasing them.
Smashwords is in many ways a much smaller selection of titles then Kindle, so hopefully more people will catch sight of these books and they'll start moving at half-way decent rates again.

General Updates
Well, I haven't actually said much about what I've been doing lately, so it's time for a little update or two...
1.) A Fox's Tale: The Smith's Son - The second book in the A Fox's Tale series is done... all that's left is a bit of editing and cover design. Unfortunately, my sister was the one that produced the cover for A Fox's Tale, and she's in the middle of a rather heavy semester in High School, so it may be some time before it's actually released.
Sorry...
Also, I've taken A Fox's Tale off the KDP select system and will soon be releasing it through Smashwords as well.
2.) VALKYRIE: Into the Heavens - I've started initial work on VALKYRIE #3 - Outer Reaches. At the same time I've started learning both Blender and Sculptris... My plan is to port the models I've made in Sketchup to Blender, give them proper textures and use Blender to produce new covers and trailers for Youtube, but that's slow going.
3.) THE GREATEST GAME - Sadly, this series is on the back burner right now, as interest has been relatively low. I do have plans for the series, but with so few people reading the books and my already full work load, it's probably better if I focus more on VALKYRIE: Into the Heavens and a couple projects I have going for more traditional publication.
4.) PROJECT ROLL-PLAY - Development is still ongoing, and I've become fairly active on the Giants in the Playground's Homebrew forum discussing various elements of RPG design. Right now I'm focused on providing enough magical spells and rules to roughly equal that which you'd get in the 'core' rulebook for a game like Pathfinder or DnD.
5.) Traditional Publication Projects - I've been actively working on a book meant to be published through traditional channels, as it's a bit more mainstream in SF content then VALKYRIE: Into the Heavens. This book is being developed under the provisional title 'Midshipmen', and, much like the Honor Harrington series, is largely being inspired by the old Horatio Hornblower stories.
Unlike Honor Harrington, I'm not going out of my way to use such things as 'broadsides' and so forth in the stories, but real world physics and a sort of twisted reflection of the way officers were trained and worked in the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic wars. In some ways it might be closer to the whole Master and Commander series in it's depiction of midshipmen and apprentice officers.
The story will revolve around the careers of two midshipmen: Astra Tanaka and Miles Ambrose while on their first shipboard assignment to Peregrine-class Gunboat Swift Fox during the initial lead up to and outbreak of hostilities between the United Empires of Anglica and Nihon (UEAN) and the Imperial Republic of C'Hall (IRC), essentially playing along the same historical roles as the UK and Republican France.
As the UEAN is settled by colonists from Britain and Japan, there are a number of direct references to the period. The main UEAN naval facility in their home system is known as Spithead, and so forth. The IRC is made up of former colonies of France and Russia, with French being the official language.
A large number of other nations will also make their appearance, echoing the multiple powers involved in the period.

Friday Food For Thought #21
Why You Should be Worried about Ebola
Today, August 8th, 2014 the World Health Organization declared that the Ebola outbreak in West Africa is now a 'Public Health Emergency of International Concern'. This represents only the third time that the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a public health emergency, with previous declarations coming from the reemergence of polio and the H1N1 virus or 'Swine Flu' pandemic.
None of these viral outbreaks comes close to the level of mortality of Ebola. From current reports, the Ebola outbreak in West Africa is of a virus with around a 55% mortality rate, which while low for Ebola (It has occasionally had mortality rates as high a 90%) is still several times worse then any pandemic virus in recent memory. The Spanish Flu, which is often considered something of a measuring stick for modern pandemics had a mortality rate of around only 10-20% of cases. This is even higher then the Black Death which had a mortality rate of 30-40% of cases.
While there are a number of limiting factors for the spread of Ebola, foremost among them being that it isn't an airborne virus, the continual infection of emergency workers (around 10% of reported cases and deaths) show that despite it being only transmittable through bodily fluids and blood, it is spreading even to those who take the greatest precautions relatively easily. This is because, Ebola is very infectious, requiring only a tiny amount of exposure to be transmitted. It also has a history of being transmittable through aerosol. Considering the speed of the outbreak's spread and the continual cases of aid workers, I'm pretty sure this strain is capable of spreading via aerosol. A cough, a sneeze, and spit therefore become transmission vectors.
With 140 to 150 cases of Health Care workers being infected even with full-body protection (like what's shown above), one has to wonder if it's even possible to really protect doctors and nurses from the disease.
Currently the Ebola outbreak has spread to just four countries (Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Nigeria) though the United States and Spain both have taken citizens with the virus back home for treatment. However, the situation is set to rapidly worsen as Liberia's Health Care system has officially collapsed and doctors are fleeing the country to escape the virus. As a result, Liberia's population of 4.1 million people are basically completely unprotected from the virus.
Recent news also lists suspected cases now in Benin and Uganda, increasing the number of countries affected by the disease to six. The total population of these countries is over 240+ million people, with the largest population at risk being that of Niger with around 175 million. One of these suspected cases traveled through South Sudan, so that's another country that may be at risk as well.
Scares have happened all across the globe as fears of the virus have led to incidents at airports and on borders.
The decision to bring home American and Spanish citizens who had been infected, worries me. If the disease is as easily transmittable to health care workers as it seems to be, there is a risk that those who are working at the hospitals where these people are being treated will be infected.
Ebola has a three-week incubation period before symptoms begin to appear. This means that say... someone in Liberia that has been infected decides to flee the country, it will be three weeks before their first symptoms appear. From the diseases onset to even after death (Ebola is actually at its most infectious from contact with dead bodies) he will be capable of spreading the disease. The lower then normal mortality rate of the current strain is actually making the disease spread faster, as people are living long enough to spread it to many others.
How far can a man go in three-weeks from exposure to onset? Well... Practically anywhere. Some direct flights between infected countries have been closed, but this will not insure the containment of the disease as a person could jump the border, get onto a plane in an unaffected country and fly anywhere in the world. One of the most recent cases flew through South Sudan, and there have been scares involving flights from the Middle East. Moreover, the WHO is estimating that only 25-50% of cases are being reported, making the likely total number of cases between 4-8 thousand at this point.
So far, we've actually been lucky it hasn't spread beyond West Africa, but our luck can't hold out forever and as the Liberia Health System implodes and people begin to flee the disease areas, I suspect it will get worse and fast. Thus far, Ebola has never spread beyond West Africa but if this is something that will hold true in this case?
I'd really hate to gamble on it.

LAUNCH ANNOUNCEMENT
Last night I finished uploading my latest work to Kindle and Createspace, bringing out my fourth book. That's right VALKYRIE: Into the Heavens volume #2 is out!

Get it now at: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HV5HSPM
If you’re a fan of science-fiction anime, manga, and light novels you’ll probably like this story. It features a cast of characters from across the globe which can only grow in the future. It’s a light novel, so it’s short but that doesn’t mean it does not pack a punch. It's the sequel to VALKYRIE: Candidates so be sure to grab that one first.
Synopsis: 2163, the war between Earth and the Ixo drags onward. The pilots of Project Valkyrie are sent to 2 Pallas, an asteroid in the inner solar system to defend a science station working to trace the Ixo attacks back to their homeworld.
The four teenagers that pilot the next generation ships known as Interceptor Frigates are all but swallowed up by the Valkyrie program as engineers and technicians try to improve upon the designs after each engagement. Despite all of the stress of deployment, Daniel Logan and Michiko Hoshimoto try to find ways to relax amidst the chaos and keep themselves from becoming a danger to each other and the rest of the project.
The four teen pilots of the new 1st Interceptor Squadron are quickly thrown into battle against the Ixo as the alien fleets continue their relentless assault on Earth. As the Ixo introduce a series of far larger and more powerful vessels into the war, the teen pilots of the 1st Interceptor Squadron find themselves being thrown into the midst of a struggle between titans.
50,000 words, Rated T (Suitable for teens, 13 years and older, with some violence, minor coarse language, and minor suggestive adult themes.)

10/11/2013 Update
Okay, so while it may appear that I haven't been busy, appearances are deceptive. THE GREATEST GAME: Hunters is currently being edited while I finish the cover art. It's a bit behind schedule, but I think it should be out within the week.
In the meantime VALKYRIE: Candidates is currently free on Kindle, so go grab a copy or two. So far I don't have many sales this month (big sales last month though) so I'm a bit nervous.
Due to delays on the paper version of A Fox's Tale #1. I will be doing VALKYRIE: Pallas first in the Winter Quarter (Yes I have my release schedule organized into quarters), meaning it will be available well before Christmas time (YES!)
Then I'll be working on A Fox's Tale #2 for a mid December release (perhaps a week or two before Christmas) with THE GREATEST GAME'S second installation being released sometime in mid January.

LAUNCH ANNOUNCEMENT
Last night at midnight, I pushed the button labeled "Save and
Publish" on the Kindle Direct Publishing website, launching the second
of three planned series.

VALKYRIE: Into the Heavens is here! Get it now at: http://www.amazon.com/VALKYRIE-Candidates-Into-Heavens-ebook/dp/B00F1RFYTE/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1378648763&sr=1-1

Synopsis: Volume One of the VALKYRIE Light Novel Series.
2163, it has been twelve years since the Ixo first attacked Earth, killing millions and igniting the first interstellar war. In order to reverse a series of defeats, the United Nations launches Project Valkyrie. They select four teens from across the globe and bring them together to train them to become the first of a new type of soldier: the pod pilot.
A brilliant teen orphan, Daniel Logan is conscripted into the unit, along with Michiko Hoshimoto a fellow teen with a competitive streak and fiery temper. He shares dorm space with the other two candidates: Svetlana Gurevich and Rosa Löwe. Danny’s skills earn him respect in the simulators with all save Michiko, who accuses him of cheating. At the same time he harbor’s a terrible secret.
Can those candidates put aside their issues with one another to save Humanity from extermination at the hands of the Ixo? Humanity is well on the way to losing the war without them, and the Project is lagging behind with only two ships available for testing. Will Danny and Michiko be ready before the end, even if, the Ixo, do not interfere?

LAUNCH ANNOUNCEMENT!
Thursday, around midnight I pressed the button in Kindle Direct Publishing. Being sleepy, I missed a typo (already fixed) that, and watched as the various gerbils spun in their wheels at Amazon.com and converted the html document I'd uploaded into an ebook. This was the end of a month long collaborative effort between me and my sister, whom I had commissioned to create the cover.
The first book in my series, "The Fox's Tale" went live by noon. It's currently available for $3.95 in the United States, 2.50 GBP in the United Kingdom, 2.95 EUR across most of the rest of Europe, and 295 yen in Japan. On August 9th, starting at 12:00 PM, it will be free for a Launch Promotion until August 13th. I encourage all who have supported me in becoming a writer, my family, parents, mentors, teachers, and all my followers on fanfiction, twitter, blogger, tumblr, and facebook to take advantage of the promotion, read the book, and write a review. The more responses, reviews, and downloads I can obtain over the next week or so are likely to greatly determine how well the book does in it's initial run before the arrival of it's sequel.
You can get the book here:
http://www.amazon.com/Foxs-Tale-Wardens-Daughter-ebook/dp/B00EE0YE6I
From this point on, I plan to have a book released every two months or so. Releases will be on a tumble schedule between three series that I plan on running simultaneously. This is to keep me from burning out writing any one series for a drawn out period of time (A Fox's Tale is likely to be a very long running series with the current plot I've sketched out). I will have one Fantasy Series (A Fox's Tale), one Science Fiction Series (VALKYRIE), and one Alternate History Series (The Greatest Game) running simultaneously, and my next story (VALKYRIE #1) is nearing complete as I type.
Thank you for all of your support in my endeavors.
Sincerely,
Paul A. Naughton

Looking for Beta Readers
Happy Easter everyone!
Now, it's hard to believe that in all my years, I really haven't had much in the way of what are known as 'Beta' readers or even 'Alpha' readers if you will, so...
This is an open call for Alpha and Beta Readers, if you wish to take part send me an e-mail at stellarmagic01@gmail.com
Now, to explain what exactly an Alpha or Beta reader is, at least to me, is to put it this way. When someone first starts making much of anything... They usually need someone behind them to cheer them on. This is the primary job of an Alpha Reader, to demand the next chapter and force me to write it. Right now my focus is on Original Fiction, so if you want to volunteer for a Fanfiction Alpha or Beta reading position, just wait until I have one available to you.
A Beta Reader is someone who does more than demand the next chapter, a beta reader helps a writer iron out mistakes, call out problems, and effectively... acts to critique what I write in the hope of improving it.
I should say that you really should only volunteer to be an Alpha if you're able to deal with very rough works... Anyway. Here are the positions I'm looking for.
Alpha Reader and Beta Reader for the Ambrose Chronicles, a Science Fiction/YA.
Alpha Reader and Beta Reader for the Fox's Tale series, a Fantasy/YA.
Details about these stories can be found on my 'Projects' Page.
Once again, this is an open call for Alpha and Beta Readers, if you wish to take part send me an e-mail at stellarmagic01@gmail.com

What I'm Working on
What's on my desk, in the mail, and general progress reports on my original writing can be found here. Right now, I have one story in drafting and another that I'm sending around to various agents. Both of these stories are designed to be a sort of 'pilot' for a series of books.
The first, and the one that I'm sending around to agents is called: A Fox's Tale: The Warden's Daughter. It's a YA/Fantasy story revolving around the characters of Ember Wulf and her friend Jona escaping the clutches of bandits and an evil lord's agent named Rodric the Raven. As a personal test of whether it'd be accepted by teen readers, I asked my 7th Grade Sister to read it. Once she got going, she burned through the book pretty fast and seemed to really enjoy it.
The second story that I'm working on doesn't yet have a title I'm satisified with. The series revolves around the adventures of Midshipman Miles Ambrose and his friend Astra Tanaka in their naval careers. It's a YA/Sci-Fi novel, and is probably the 'hardest' long piece of Science Fiction I will ever attempt to write, becasue, as the more research I did, the more difficult it seemed for any space opera to really work in a highly realistic setting.
I did a one off, in this universe called 'An Average Engagement' that I sent to Analog, thus far I haven't gotten any word back from them, but it's only been a few weeks.
If anyone has some suggestions for where to send these works too... I'm all ears.

If anyone has some suggestions for where to send these works too... I'm all ears.
Welcome to New Eden
I'm not sure what to call this... as it truly isn't fanfiction, or at least... isn't ALL fanfiction. I was first published in the very last issue of EON Magazine with the Story, The Rose's Bounty. So... this is a bit of a gray area.
Here I will be posting my New Eden Fiction, I'll have to check with CCP as to what their rules when it comes to published fiction is, as to whether I can repost The Rose's Bounty. If not, well... I suggest you grab a downloadable copy if you can, or buy an actual magazine to get that piece. I really enjoyed it, myself. You will see me use those characters repeatedly in other stories posted here, so just a heads up.
Welcome and Clear Skies.

Announcing - Project Roll-Play
You know, I've developed a bit of an unhealthy fascination with a number of different pen and paper, roleplaying games over the years. I think it must be my background with computer gaming and modding, but when I played many of them... especially when I GM'ed campaigns, I found myself constantly tweaking the rules attempting to streamline and simplify them.
Roll-Play is the ultimate result, my personal attempt to make a D20 RPG gaming system that can handle... quite simply anything... Here's a little preview.

Augment (Humanoid)
The
result of genetic experiments, bioengineering, or other less ethical practices,
Augments are often times shunned or even hunted down as game. Due to their nature as creations of science
and technology they vary widely in abilities, nature, and appearance.
Anatomy: Augments usually
feature a mix of human and other species traits such as feline, reptilian, or canine
features. Other augments feature a mix
of many sources this mix results in a variety of different traits that can
be beneficial or less than helpful.
Biochemistry: Organic,
Carbon-based. As carbon-based organics
augments consume carbon-based foods primarily.
Their bioengineered metabolism may allow them to break down almost any
material to use as fuel for their bodies including heavy metals and even rock
itself. It may also dramatically
increase their caloric intake.
Diet: Augments usually have
a diet similar to their basic creature.
Habitat: Augments can live
almost anywhere, though they tend to prefer the same sort of environment of
their base creature.
Psychology: Augments live on
the run or in the service of a master or corporate entity. Paranoia runs deep among those that have
escaped to freedom and trust does not come easily, if at all.
Sociology: Augments rarely
congregate in any fashion, but when they do, the societies that are formed tend
toward the extremes and isolationism.
Playing as an Augment:
Augments
are versatile, and extremely adaptable.
As an augment you’re a specialist who has been bred, engineered, or
otherwise ‘tailored’ to be best at a specific set of abilities.
In most settings augments are
often times despised by those that lack the augmentations they’ve been
given. Whether they’re in more powerful
positions due to their augmentation depends entirely on setting. You’re either a leader or a pauper depending
on the world in which you’re playing.
Fighting Augments:
The
best way to fight an augment is to figure out their specialty and remove it
from play. If they’re clearly a master
of melee combat, fight from range. For
every ability they have maxed there will be one drained and once you identify
it, you can exploit it.
Augment (Humanoid) Species Traits
Humanoid
Augments share the following species traits:
Ability Modifiers: +4 to two
ability score modifiers of your choice, and a -4 ability modifier to an ability
score of your choice, these three modifiers can stack atop each other.
Medium Size: As medium
creatures, Augments have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Senses: Augments are
designed with improved senses for use in combat. These senses come in various forms. Please select one from this list on character
creation:
·
Animal Senses: Augments with this form of sensor perception
gain low-light vision and the scent special ability. Augments with low-light vision ignore
concealment from darkness but not total concealment.
·
Blind Sense:
Augments with this form of sensory perception ignore all concealment on targets
within 6-squares.
·
Night-vision:
Augments with this form of sensory perception ignore all concealment from
darkness, including total concealment.
Unfortunately you treat normal light as bright light, and bright light
as blinding light in exchange. Essentially this acts as Darkvision plus the
Light Sensitivity flaw.
Natural Weapons: Augments may choose from these possible
selections of natural weapons.
·
Claws and Teeth: 2 primary claw attacks which deals 1d4 damage +
strength modifier and 1 primary bite attack which deals 1d6 damage + twice
strength modifier.
·
Claws and Talons: 2 primary claw attacks which
deals 1d4 damage + strength modifier and 2 secondary talon attacks which deals
1d4 damage + ½ strength modifier.
·
Brutal Fists: 2 primary slam attacks which deal 1d8 damage +
strength modifier.
Speed: Augment base speed is
dependent on their design, select one of the two following traits for their
base speeds.
·
Aquatic: Base speed is 6-squares, and they gain a swim
speed of 6-squares.
·
Arboreal: Base speed is 6-squares, and they gain a climb
speed of 6-squares.
·
Swift: Base speed is 8-squares.

Human
The
baseline from which all other species and races tend to be compared. Humans or Homo Sapiens are considered the
norm, the average. Neither particularly
strong or fast, wise or smart, humans are unapologetically average. Not that it's particularly a bad thing.
Anatomy: Humans are
mammalian creatures with an average height of 1.8 meters tall and an average
weight of between 60-80 kilograms, however significant deviance from this norm
is possible due to obesity, diet, hormonal imbalance, and genetics. Human skin tone varies widely from a pale
ashen color to a dark black. Hair and
eye color vary widely from red and blonde to brown and black. Eyes are generally a shade of grey, green,
blue, or brown. Eye dimorphism is rare
but possible. Genetics indicate that
other hair and eye colors (such as blue hair, red eyes, gold eyes, and so
forth) are possible but extremely unlikely.
Like many mammals Humans are sexually dimorphic with clear visible
differences between male and female members, however this dimorphism is not so
severe as to affect their statistics.
Biochemistry: Organic,
Carbon-based. As carbon-based organics
humans consume carbon-based foods primarily and many heavy metals are
considered toxic to them.
Diet: Humans are omnivores
that tend toward cooked meats. Fruits
and vegetables can be consumed both cooked and uncooked. Humans that eat nuts, fish, and fruits have a
tendency toward slightly longer life spans then those that consume primarily
red meats.
Habitat: Humans without
clothing or other technology are most comfortable in a tropical or sub-tropical
habitat, but simple heavy clothing can allow them to endure typical arctic
conditions. It's common for human
settlements to be established on or near coastlines, but it's not uncommon for
large settlements to be established almost anywhere.
Psychology: You name it, humans
have done it when it comes to psychology.
It's better to consider human psychology a baseline with which to
compare other species.
Sociology: Human culture and
organization spans just about every conceivable means for mammalian
creatures. From nomadic bands to fascist
nation states and agrarian farm villages to vast continent spanning
democracies, all have existed so far in our world, so there's little reason to
think that other futuristic cultures couldn't be spawned by human minds.
Playing as a Human
Playing
as a human is one of the most natural fits for novice players due to their
flexibility and ease of getting in character.
Humans in many ways are unapologetically average and flexible allowing
for easy customization for specific game concepts.
Fighting Humans:
Since
humans are not predisposed to good or ill, it’s rather easy for a group of
heroes or villains to find themselves fighting humans. Their inherent flexibility and variability
make it so no singular strategy is guaranteed to work with great success
against them so being cautious and flexible in your approach is likely the best
choice.
Human Species Traits
Humans
share the following species traits:
Ability Modifiers: +2 to an
ability score of your choice.
Medium Size: As medium
creatures, Humans have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Speed: Human base speed is
6-squares.
Bonus Trained Skill: Humans are
highly adaptable and often proficient in a wide variety of skills. A Human character chooses one additional
trained skill at 1st level.
Bonus Feat: Humans gain one
bonus feat at 1st level.
Bonus Talent: Humans gain
one bonus talent at 1st level.

Nymph
Mystical
creatures of immense beauty, poise, grace, and magic, Nymphs are renown for
their beauty and magical skills. Their
exact appearance changes dependent upon the world in which they are present
within, though most appear to be blindingly beautiful variations of humans or
elves.
Anatomy: Nymphs are
mammalian creatures with an average height of 1.6 meters tall and an average
weight of between 30-50 kilograms, this weight is surprisingly universal as
Nymphs do not normally suffer from hormonal imbalance or obesity. Nymph skin tone is usually a very pale white
to bronze or a blue-white. Hair color spans
the known spectrum, though dark browns and blacks are the most common. Eyes coloration varies wildly with red, gold,
purple, and violet colors appearing. Eye
dimorphism is rare but possible. Unlike
most species, Nymphs are exclusively female, but capable of reproducing with
almost any mammalian humanoid. Usually
the female results of such unions are full Nymphs while the males assume the
traits of their father’s species.
Biochemistry: Organic,
Carbon-based. As carbon-based organics Nymphs
eat carbon-based foods primarily and many heavy metals are considered toxic to
them.
Diet: Nymphs are omnivores
that tend toward various natural produce instead of meat. They prefer fruits, olives, apples, peaches,
and various grains.
Habitat: Nymphs are at home
in deep forests, oasis, and even small rural settlements. Due to their beauty and the attention they
often attract, most Nymphs are somewhat solitary and reclusive.
Psychology: Nymphs tend
toward being quite and introverted. As a
result, Nymphs tend to blend into the background in most confrontations or
avoid conflict entirely. However few can
argue with the persuasive powers of an experienced Nymph diplomat.
Sociology: Nymph society tends to be highly isolated
from other societies in an attempt to escape the attention of the other
races. They also tend to be small,
usually revolving around a group of sisters or a mother and her female
children. Occasionally daring Nymphs may
integrate themselves in other societies but this is rare.
Playing as a Nymph
Nymphs
have a unique appeal and a rather understated roll in most parties. Their diplomatic prowess makes them excellent
negotiators and their bonus to charisma can make them devastating spell
casters. Playing as a Nymph can be very
rewarding but also quite challenging as their utility in combat leaves
something to be desired often times.
Fighting Nymphs:
It
is a rare occurrence for a party to find themselves in combat with a Nymph, in
large part due to their conflict avoidance and passive nature. However when a Nymph is fully riled into
defending their homes or children they can make a dangerous, or even
devastating opponent. Players should be
wary of attempts to seduce, confuse, or enchant their comrades to fighting in
the Nymph’s defense, as her charismatic talents are her greatest weapons.
Nymph Species Traits
Nymphs
share the following species traits:
Ability Modifiers: -2
Strength, +2 Dexterity, -2 Constitution, and +4 Charisma: Nymphs are charismatic and manipulative but
weak and frail.
Medium Size: As medium
creatures, Nymphs have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Speed: Nymph base speed is
6-squares.
Always Female: There are no
males of this species, all members are exclusively female.
Ageless: Nymphs are immune
to the penalties of advanced age. They
do not take the penalty to Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution from old age.
Enhanced Ability (Charisma):
A Nymph grows more beautiful and manipulative as they age. A Nymph gains the Enhanced Ability (Charisma)
Power as a bonus Talent even if they lack the prerequisites.
Crib Languages: Auran.
Roll-Play is designed from the ground up as a classless system, revolving around the selection of Talents and Feats at each level to progress a character. This allows characters to specialize or generalize without the worry of multiclassing and other complications.
The Talents are designed to allow for a vast array of play styles and various settings, ranging from Anime and Comic Book superheroes to the dark and gritty reality of trench warfare. Roll-Play is meant to be able to handle them all as one single book.
As you might imagine, this is an absolute mountain of work for any one person to get through... but I'll get their eventually... And here's the Character Sheet I've got at present.
